When i create music, that is putting different sounds together that are in a digital format, create new sounds or change an existing sound on a computer i often use a DAW, (Digital audio workstation) called Renoise. Renoise is a so called tracker wich means that you see the sound samples or synths that get played in a grid that moves vertically upwards as the song plays. I beleave that it's more common nowadays to use a different form of DAW which i believe is called a Loop DAW, where the sounds that get played are displayed in a view where information representing sounds get moved from left to right, unlike Renoise or other trackers where the information gets moved from the top downwards.
I beleave a DAW is any form of computer program that can be used for making music. Another DAW that i have used beside Renoise is Garage Band wich is the type of DAW that i think is called a Loop DAW. I have also used FamiTracker to make music wich is a Tracker DAW where you can make music that can be played from the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System).
